remington 870 Home Defense
Went to a local Gun Shop today and saw a beauty. Remington Home Defense 12Ga. Certainly looks like it could be tricked out with light and better stock.
Only draw back seems the sight is a bead. So I wanted to know if Ghost Ring sights could be added after market and how much that would cost? Also saw a new Springfield XP .45 That struck my fancy. Holds 13 and has a much slimmer handle than the other double stacks I've had in my hands. Any thoughts on Springfield.? E-A |
Re: remington 870 Home Defense
The Springfield is Croatian made so it should be fine. How the mighty have fallen. But yeah, the Croats make good guns. The XD line has an excellent reputation.

Re: remington 870 Home Defense
It had double safteys a glock trigger saftey and the back strap safety found on 45s. The 2 part trigger goes against my grain as I like more solid less refined tools. However it did feel good and point well.

Re: remington 870 Home Defense
You can add ghost rings to that 870, but I don't know the cost. I have seen them with them already installed, so they might be a factory option. Check out remington's website.
I would buy an older 870 Wingmaster and build it myself before I bought one of the new ones. You'll pay the same or less and have a better gun when finished. I personally don't like a pistol grip on an 870. Maybe it's because I'm used to it the other way, but I wanted one, so I checked out a friend's. I hated it. It makes it hard to reach the safety. I'm no fan of a weapon mounted light, either, and for home defense, the bead will put you close enough. A single point sling and an extended mag are worthy additions, IMO. I like the XD's, though I don't have one. Combines the KISS of the glock with the better (for me anyway) ergonomics of a 1911. You also might want to check out a Para Ord 1911 with a double stack and LDA (light double action). Now that's a nice piece. |
